The Bhal plains

Priyanka grew up in the Bhal region of Gujarat — low, open country where folk singing is still part of everyday life rather than a stage act. She is one of five children in a farming family; her father works the land.

Her first real audience came early: at six she sang for around three hundred people at a school event, and her teachers kept pushing her toward the next competition, the next function.

College years

Engineering by day, a band by night

She studied engineering in Gujarat, and the music came with her. She sang with her college band and on festival stages such as Amul Volcano, and once sang the national anthem at an engineering college tech-festival where Narendra Modi was present.

Formal voice training came late — only after college.

Ahmedabad

The classical foundation

After moving to Ahmedabad she took lessons in Hindustani classical music and began working professionally — cultural programmes, corporate shows, weddings and, above all, Navratri.

That mix still shapes her sets: folk and Garba at the centre, alongside the film songs of composers she admires, among them A.R. Rahman, Pritam, Sachin–Jigar and Amit Trivedi.

United States

An ocean away, the circle gets bigger

Graduate study took her to Oakland University in Michigan. In America she built Priyanka Kher & Band and became a regular on the diaspora Navratri circuit, singing for crowds of anywhere from 300 to 5,000 people.

Today

Writing, composing, releasing

Under Priyanka Kher Productions she writes lyrics, composes, produces music videos and releases her own music — Gujarati folk, Garba, Kutchhi songs, devotional pieces and Hindi singles like Har Woh Shaam and Adhoora Adhoora. Her Gujarati mashup of Saybo Maro, Nayan Ne Bandh Rakhine and Tari Aankh no Afini is one of her best-known videos.

The Garbo series — from the 2023 album to Garbo 4.0 in 2026 — has become her Navratri signature.
